Dr. Joyce J. Dorsey is a Community Leader, Social Service provider, Minister, Mother & Grandparent, an advocate for the disadvantaged, and a family woman all in one.

She is currently the President/CEO of The Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority and has been in the line of duty since March,1991. Her work experience stretches over 50 years all of which have been in service to the community.

 

The mother of two sons, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her favorite activity involves playtime with the grandchildren, tinkering on her keyboard and traveling with family and friends.

 

A native of Brooklyn, NY, she is the 9th child of 11 children born to the late Rev. Dorsey and Mrs. Gladys H. Dorsey. In 1956, the family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where Dr. Dorsey graduated from Washington High School. She continued her education at Spelman College where she graduated in 1970 and helped to establish the ETA KAPPA Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta on campus. Dr. Dorsey received her MSW in 1986 at the Atlanta University School of Social Work, and her Doctorate in Biblical Studies from The North Carolina College of Theology in 2008.

The Gemini Baby Boomer has been a social worker since 1986 although her training began when she worked in the field of Corrections and Domestic Violence. Having been raised in a ministerial environment she had an eye for her calling. Helping People who had no way out of the many problems of life. 

Amongst her many achievements has been the development of affordable housing which included homebuilding & renovations for low income families through FACAA’s housing component & Youth Build (training for troubled Youth) which produced & subsidized apartment living project and three affordable home subdivision. Dr. Dorsey has been recognized for her work by many organizations and honorary awards and acclaim throughout the United States.

A strong public speaker, advocate for the poor and inspirational team leader with a goal to train an establish her workforce as leading helpers that also inspire those down and out financially, morally and spiritually.
